Dismissed from his post as Riding Instuctor at the Baden Baden (so good they named it twice) Accademy for the Daughters of Distressed Gentlefolk, Hertz van Rental joined the Foreign Service as a freelance foreigner. A chance meeting at a Marakesh clinic, and the aquisition of certain negatives, led to his appointment as Ginsberg Emeritus Professor of Applied Narcotics at the University of Dzerkov. Between lectures the Herr Doktor is able to indulge his twin passions of women of a certain age (this sometimes during lectures) and WWI aviation.
Taking full advantage of the University's unrivaled archives (and of a mysterious lady archivist known only as "deep throat") Professor van Rental compiled the monumental "Jasta 38DD War Diaries" (Dzerkov University Press 1998) which form the basis of this web site.
