As well as bringing the exploits of Hptm Ritter (Dipl Ing) Karl Otto Titzlinger and his comrades in Jagdstaffel 38DD to the attention of a wider public, with the publication of "The Jasta 38DD War Diaries" Professor Doktor Hertz van Rental also provided a whole new area of reference for the modeller. Titzlingers Albatros DII was illustrated in colour for the first time and is reproduced here for discerning modellers everywhere.A spritely 104, Hptm Titzlinger is still an occasional contributor to |

Hptm Titzlingers DII displays the early style of Jasta marking of pink nose and wheel discs with red spinner. Personal markings depict the burning at the stake of St Donnersgaad the Bewildered, the patron saint of Kebab Shops and of Titzlingers home city of Dzerkov. The interpretation of colours from black and white photographs is not an exact science and St Donnersgaad's habit ,shown here as black, may have been red. Titzlinger carried this image on most of the aircraft he flew through two and a half years of war. It was this distinctive marking which gave rise to the expression "Beware of the Nun in the Sun" amongst allied airmen.
