Rittm Viktor Wszjnski "the Eagle of Dzerkov"is still a contaversial figure, even after a lapse of more than eighty years. Historians have questioned the veracity of his claims and the recent documentary "The Kid Who Couldn't Hit a Bull in the Butt With a Base Fiddle" has further fanned the flames of contraversy. But his claims were recognised according to the criteria of his time and the award of the Crem de Caramel with Nut Cluster speaks for itself. Rittm Wszjnski is pictured here in the cockpit of the Wszjnski DI, one of only two aircraft to be named after scout pilots during the war. A distinction shared with the Albert Ballcock. |

This rare hand coloured postcard represents the only other known photograph of the Wszjnski DI. Typical Jasta 38DD markings of pink wheels and cowling together with red "Schüssel für das Führen des Wassers" (spinner) are in evidence. This single prototype was built by the Dzerkov Aufwerfung Puderbeutel und Chirurgische Stützfabrik to Wszjnski's own specification and had several unusual features in addition to the black leather fuselage. The seat harness in particular was unique, including as it did wrist restraints and a bridle. |
